The event commenced with the ROI Equestrian Cup, followed by cocktails at the Banyan Garden. A brief Q&A session was held, headed by Victor Limlingan, Managing Director of Regina Capital.
Victor Limlingan on Foreign Buying
Victor Limlingan mentioned that his role in the company is to talk to foreign investors. According to him, foreigners are keen on investing in the Philippines because of our resilient market. He also mentioned that millenials will be the ones who will harvest the fruits of the Philippine stock market.
"Don't just buy the stocks that you like, buy stocks that foreigners like."
I liked this golden piece of advice that Mr. Limlingan gave, which I think is very applicable to our market currently. Personally, I'll take this as a cue to monitor foreign transactions, paying attention to what they are accumulating. Simply put, when making an analysis of your prospect stocks, consider the factor of whether foreigns (i.e., foreign fund managers) are buying it or not.
Marita Limlingan on Santa Claus Effect
Mrs. Marita Limlingan, the President of Regina Capital, talked about the Santa Claus effect. According to her, usually, the market goes up in December/Christmas season, hence, the "Santa Claus effect" tag. Increased spending during the Christmas season definitely contributes to this positive market move.
Most likely, you've heard of the trading adage "Sell in May and go away". Before you can sell, you need to buy, right? This is a hint on when you should start buying.
Fernando Martinez on Market Recovery
According to Mr. Fernando Martinez, Head of Sales of Regina Online Investing, with the recent rebound of the PSEi, we might see the index close somewhere between 7600-8000 by the end of the year.
This is music to the ears of traders and investors of the Philippine stock market. Let's hope that Mr. Martinez's positive forecast comes true, and eventually carry over the momentum to 2016.
